CYCLISTS put the pedal down to raise more than £1,000 for charity with a ride over the North York Moors.

Enthusiasts from Stockton and beyond got on their bikes to boost the funds of Macmillan Cancer Care.

Around 30 riders set off from the Elm Tree Social Club on Bishopton Lane, Stockton for the near-40 mile trek to Whitby.

The ride took in some of the most challenging hills on the Moors and was a real test of stamina.

The fifth year the event has been held, it originally began with just four riders and has grown in popularity ever since.

This year’s event, held on Sunday (Sept 21) was sponsored by plant hire companies, GAP, Selwoods, Reuben Smith and Herrings.

Organiser Paul Ryder said: “I would like to thank everyone involved with the event and special praise must go to our first lady rider Emma Perry.”
