A MAN accused of trying to snatch a schoolgirl from the street has appeared before a judge at crown court.

Paul Whitfield is alleged to have attempted to entice the ten-year-old into his car in Billingham, Teesside.

He is also said to have flouted a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and sex offender registration requirements.

It is alleged the 43-year-old twice used a false name - Paul Wilson and Gennwty Guy - when registering this month.

He is also accused of having unsupervised contact with a girl aged under the age of 16 - in breach of the SOPO.

The other alleged breaches involve him having devices capable of taking photographs and accessing the internet.

Mr Whitfield, of Fordwell Road, Stockton, appeared at Teesside Crown Court this morning (Wednesday, September 24) via a live video-link from Durham Prison.

He did not enter any pleas to the charges of attempted abduction on September 7 or the breach allegations.

Judge George Moorhouse told him he will appear in person for a plea and case management hearing on November 25.
