A FRAMED football shirt signed by a Premier League championship winning squad will go under the hammer to raise funds for the Friarage Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal.

A group of former local footballers will auction the shirt at the Northallerton Area Charity Football Reunion event on Friday, September 26, and event sponsors, builders merchants JT Atkinson, have donated the 2012/13 season Manchester United shirt.

The event was announced as the appeal total neared £950,000, almost half the £2m target it is hoped will be raised by December next year for the investigative medical equipment, which will mean North Yorkshire patients no longer have to travel to Middlesbrough for the imaging tests.

Event co-organiser Keith Caygill said the authenticated shirt's recommended insurance value was £3,000 and he expected it to attract bids from fans seeking a memento of the Sir Alex Ferguson era or as a potential investment opportunity.

The shirt will be auctioned by Mike Darwin, of Northallerton-based surveyors MW Darwin & Sons, at the event at The Troubadour in Northallerton, which will feature live music by The Beer Pigs, a disco, buffet, and a raffle.

The event's organisers are also creating a permanent library of photographs of former football teams from around the area, which can be viewed on the Northallerton Area Charity Football Reunion Facebook page.

Anyone with old team photos they would like adding can scan and email them to keith.caygill@bobholidays.com
