A TAXI driver has hit out at yobs who vandalised a number of cars in his street this week.

A spate of vandalism that took place over night on Monday, September 1 left at least three vehicles parked on Jedburgh Drive in Darlington damaged.

Terry Jolly left for work on the morning of Tuesday, September 2 to find his taxi had had all four of its tyres slashed.

The vandalism cost hundreds of pounds to repair and meant Mr Jolly, 66, missed out on several hours of work.

He said: “I parked up outside my flat and left the car overnight – when I came out the next morning all the tyres were flat and it looked as though someone had run a knife through them.

“Then the neighbours came out and said their cars had been done as well, all down the street.

“It’s caused a lot of expense in repairs, time off the road and lost time.

“It’s disgraceful – these people have nothing better to do with their time and take it out on decent, working class people.

“Everyone round here is working class, why would you want to do something like this to your neighbours and affect their livelihoods?”

A police investigation into the incident is currently ongoing and enquiries are being made.

Anyone with information should contact Darlington Police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The advice to call 101 says it all, as if the police/cps will care less about such a crime. Proverbial slap on the wrists if they ever find the sc*m who did this...

I dont live a million miles from Terry Jolly, and we have had to scrap cars due to vandalism. We cannot have a Mobility Car , as we could not even allow the provider to insure the Mobility Car. We could not claim repeated insurance. Until Darlington Council demolished the problem flats, every vehicle we got we had to take to Dalton Park for the WINDSCREENS to be repaired due to being shot at with an airgun (Which incidentally Durham Police recorded as none existent, whilst simultaneously boasting to The Northern Echo they had confiscated airgun and shotgun from there.) This usually happens after partying hard, and the last time I complained (and it will be the last time) as nobody came out and when somebody did come out it was as a PUNISHMENT. I am unable to close my curtains at night as I rely heavily on my transport. Its no good being of a delicate nature living round here is it Terry! But when the Police ignor the vulnerable and disabled and only come out to punish them (This is to try and make the VICTIM apply and absorb shame that does not belong to them.) Well they must be bad people to be targeted out of hundreds of properties type of approach! I honestly do not know where the Police Logic and sense of JUSTICE is when a hard working mans abilty to work is removed! In such a wicked way!
