A TAXI driver has hit out at yobs who vandalised a number of cars in his street this week.

A spate of vandalism that took place over night on Monday, September 1 left at least three vehicles parked on Jedburgh Drive in Darlington damaged.

Terry Jolly left for work on the morning of Tuesday, September 2 to find his taxi had had all four of its tyres slashed.

The vandalism cost hundreds of pounds to repair and meant Mr Jolly, 66, missed out on several hours of work.

He said: “I parked up outside my flat and left the car overnight – when I came out the next morning all the tyres were flat and it looked as though someone had run a knife through them.

“Then the neighbours came out and said their cars had been done as well, all down the street.

“It’s caused a lot of expense in repairs, time off the road and lost time.

“It’s disgraceful – these people have nothing better to do with their time and take it out on decent, working class people.

“Everyone round here is working class, why would you want to do something like this to your neighbours and affect their livelihoods?”

A police investigation into the incident is currently ongoing and enquiries are being made.

Anyone with information should contact Darlington Police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
