DESIGN proposals for a new look Yarm Library will go on display as part of Stockton Borough Council’s ongoing programme of library improvements.

In April 2013 Stockton Council announced plans to refurbish and relocate libraries across the borough following public consultation.

Work is nearing completion on the refurbishment of Norton Library and construction is well under way on a new Library and Customer Service Centre in Billingham.

Earlier this year Thornaby Westbury Street Library and Roseworth Library moved into new homes at nearby children’s centres.

Artist’s impressions will soon go on display in Yarm Library from Monday, September 15 to Monday, October 13 showcasing ideas for new furniture, fittings and layout, including improved access from the street.

The refurbishment will also include the introduction of new self-service kiosks and better computers for public use.

Councillor Ken Dixon, the council's cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “We are committed to improving all of our town centre branches.

“When we consulted the public in the library service review they said they appreciated the staff and the quality of service but wanted to see the appearance of the Yarm branch improved in keeping with its attractive High Street location. We look forward to hearing people’s comments on the design proposals.”
