The Bay Horse in Hurworth is the only pub in Teesside and County Durham to feature in the 2015 edition of The Good Food Guide.

This is the first time that The Good Food Guide has published a list of the top 50 pubs, having previously only considered the top 50 restuaurants.

Head chef Marcus Bennett, who jointly owns the establishment with Jonathan Hall, said: “We’re absolutely chuffed to bits to be the only pub in Teesside and County Durham to be featured in it.

“We’ve got a great team at the pub and we work hard to ensure that every customer that walks through our doors gets the best possible experience – from the fantastic atmosphere to our award winning food and first class ales and wines.”

The Bay Horse also has the Michelin Bib Gormand, features in Harden’s Restaurant Guide and Marcus holds the title of GastroPub Chef of the Year.

Marcus and Jonathan also own Muse in Yarm and have recently opened their third restaurant, Cena, also in Yarm.

The guide is produced by Waitrose and is based on the ratings given by secret diners.

Other pubs which have also made the top 50 include The Star Inn in Harome, The Black Swan in Oldstead, and The Broad Chare in Newcastle.
