TWO Darlington entrepreneurs are set to go head-to-head with hundreds of business owners for the chance to sell their wares at one of the country’s most iconic department stores.

Inspired by their love of vintage, Karen Riley and Donna Feeney set up their upcycling business venture Totes Adore, creating home accessories, bags and scented candles from items that would otherwise be confined to the tip.

The pair will go up against hundreds of other entrepreneurs at the British Design Open Call in London this weekend, for the chance to have their products stocked at Liberty of London.

The event, now in its sixth year, offers the chance for designers to meet the store’s managing director and industry experts, who will also offer advice to new and established designers.

Ms Riley said: “It is a bit like Dragons’ Den versus X-Factor. We have a three-minute pitch to try and convince the panel that they should stock us.

“We are both really excited and we can’t wait to get down there."
