A DIAMOND couple who met at a military dance have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Tom and Shirley Frame marked the milestone with a family get together at their home in Darlington today (Thursday, August 28).

The pair met at a dance in Germany in 1953 where Mr Frame was serving with his wife’s father in the Royal Horse Artillery.

“She was only 16 and she came to the dance with her family,” said 81-year-old Mr Frame, who was born in Newcastle.

“I got her up to dance and it was quite funny as she was 4ft 11in and I was 6ft 1in.

"We were 20 odd miles away from the nearest town so we had a lot of dances."

The couple married a year later and Mrs Frame, 77, spent the next 22 years travelling the world with her husband due to his Army career.

They then returned to Britain and settled in Darlington two years ago.

“We are just right for each other that is all – there is nothing special or a secret. We understand each other,” said Mr Frame.

The couple have one daughter, Linda, and a grandson.
