A YOB who threw a rock through the window of a moving train could have killed the woman it hit, according to the British Transport Police (BTP).
A passenger was travelling between Aberdeen and Kings Cross on the 1347 service on Sunday, August 17 when she was hit in the back by a rock thrown through an open window.
The BTP is now appealing for information about the incident, which occurred at about 6.30pm when the train was between Horton Road Bridge and Thomson Street East Bridge in Darlington.
PC Steve Maddison said: “She was extremely lucky and managed to escape without injury which is incredible.
“This was an extremely dangerous incident which could have quite easily resulted in the woman being very badly injured or killed had it hit her head.
“I believe this was a deliberate act and that the rock may have been thrown at the train from bushes close to Five Arches Bridges.”
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident should contact BTP on 0800 405040 or text 61016 quoting reference PSUB/B12 of 28/08/2014.
