MORE than seven miles of tailbacks were caused following a two-vehicle crash on the A19 this evening (Tuesday).

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "Officers were called to a collision involving two vehicles at the A19 just after 6.30pm this evening.

"The Great North Air Ambulance Service aircraft landed a short time later. All casualties were taken to James Cook Hospital by road ambulance."

The scene, on the northbound carriageway near Crathorne, was handed over to North Yorkshire Police and the A19 was reopened by 8.45pm.

North Yorkshire Police thanked the public for their patience.
