A VISITOR centre is inviting people to come along to a wildlife reserve and discovery park in September, absolutely free of charge.

The team at the RSPB Saltholme, near Stockton, is offering a wide range of activities and events for all the family, to coincide with this one-month-only deal.

Lydia Tague, of RSPB Saltholme, said: “We have family fun every weekend so there’s something for younger ones to look forward to now they’re back at school, and keen bird watchers will be pleased to see the influx of birds for the autumn migration.

“At this time of year we get some great seasonal visitors onto our reserve such as golden plovers and black-tailed godwits, which means there is always something different to look out for.”

Staff and volunteers will offer visitors the best opportunities to spot some of the new arrivals by providing guided walks around the reserve and telling the story of Saltholme’s heritage.

Guided walks are running on Thursday, September 4 and Sunday, September 14. There will also be an optics demonstration day on Sunday, September 7, where visitors can find out about the best binoculars or telescope for them.

Children’s activities run every weekend from 10am until 4pm.
