POLICE are appealing for information after a Darlington home was burgled while the occupants were on holiday.

The burglar smashed the glass patio doors at the rear of a house on Arthur Street and stole high-value items including two laptop computers, a Wii games console, Wii balance board, lots of games and some tools.

The break-in happened sometime between 10am on Monday, August 11 and 11am the following day.

PC Jim Edwards of Darlington police said: “The owners of the property were away when the burglary occurred and are devastated that their home was invaded while they were on holiday and that their property was stolen.

“They are appealing to anyone who has information regarding this burglary to contact police on 101.

“Homeowners are advised to make a trusted friend, neighbour or family member aware they are going away so that the vacant property can be checked in their absence on a regular basis.

“We would also suggest that people take appropriate security measures when away such as using timing devices for lights, security marking property and ensuring all property is as secure as possible particularly now the darker nights are encroaching.”

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious during the times outlined above should contact police on 101.
