IAN WOOSNAM
Date of birth: March 2, 1958
Place of birth: Oswestry, England
Residence: Jersey, Channel Islands
Turned professional: 1976
Career wins include: Volvo PGA Championship, Scottish Open, Johnnie Walker Classic, Dunhill British Masters, US Masters
Graeme Storm says: The former world number one and the 1991 US Masters champion has always pulled the crowds in with his aggressive and very powerful style. He is quite small in stature at 5ft 6in but was pound for pound one of the longest hitters in the world. He could blow away his opponents with his aggressive play.
He was a key mover in the development of European golf through the 80s and 90s and was known as one of the big five. Winning the Ryder Cup as captain was the icing on the cake for Woosie during an illustrious career of 29 worldwide victories. Ian is still competing at a high level on the Senior Tour with four victories and continues to show his class, proving he can still mix it up with the best.
ROGER CHAPMAN
Date of birth: May 1, 1959
Place of birth: Nakuru, Kenya
Residence: Ascot, England
Turned professional: 1981
Career wins include: US Senior Open, US Senior PGA Championship, Brazil Rio De Janeiro 500 Years Open
Graeme Storm says: Roger was one of the classiest players I have ever had the chance to play with. He was very powerful but with a very handy short game to boot. He should have won many more tournaments on the European Tour than he did because of his quality; his only victory came at the Brazil Rio Open.
Since turning to the senior ranks he has more than made up for not winning enough tournaments by winning back-to-back major senior championships in the United States as well as being very competitive back on the European seniors circuit. If on form, the long demanding Rockliffe Hall course is a perfect match for Roger, with his power hitting and silky short game skills.
BARRY LANE
Date of birth: June 21, 1960
Place of birth: Hayes, England
Residence: Henley-on-Thames, England
Turned professional: 1976
Career wins include: Scottish Open, German Masters, British Masters, Scottish Senior Open, Wales Senior Open
Graeme Storm says: The former world match-play champion has been a stalwart of the European Tour since the early 80s and has won no fewer than five times. He also played for Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup team at the Belfry.
Barry still plays some sparkling golf on the Senior Tour circuit and has continued to win tournaments, putting himself in to the winner’s circle on four occasions. He possesses the same qualities as he did in his earlier years, striking the ball a long way and over-powering golf courses. I have put him in with a chance of winning the English Senior Open as he is another one suited to the long and testing Rockliffe Hall.
