MORE tributes have been paid to “two of the nicest guys” who died when their car hit a tree and burst into flames.

Friends Grant Benson, 21, of Bartlemere, Barnard Castle, and 27-year-old Nick Davidson, of Middleton-in-Teesdale, were travelling along a quiet country lane in the early hours of Saturday when their car left the road.

Family and friends have been regular visitors to the scene, placing floral tributes.

One message, from one of the men’s girlfriends, said: “My gorgeous, beautiful, kind, happy boyfriend. I keep checking my texts, scrolling down my news feed and I am waiting for you on Facetime. Why aren’t you here taking the mick out of me for being soft? How do I do all this without you? How do I smile without you?”

Another added: “Taken too soon. Always in our thoughts and never forgotten.”

A third read: “Grant, I never thought I would be writing anything like this for you. You are a great lad who lived his life to the full. In the three years I have known you I always looked at you like a little brother. You were always there for your friends and family no matter what.”

On the Facebook page Rest in Peace Grant Benson and Nick Davidson their shocked friends paid tribute to them.

Andrew Stubbs said: “Rest in peace, I love and miss you both. I struggle to believe it all. I was only with you both on Friday night, See you both soon. Much love, Stubbsy.”

Rachael Cook said: “I can't stop thinking about you boys, you’re going to be such a miss. I just know it won't be the same for the lads at work without you. RIP boys xxx.”

Rachel Howell said: “So tragic. Bad things always happen to the good and these were two of the nicest guys I’ve met and the craziest without a doubt. I still remember some crazy random phrases. You will be missed by many. Rest in peace, heart goes out to your families and friends xx.”

Danielle Millington added: “RIP, sleep tight Nick. I will never forget you and all the special times we shared over the years. Words can't describe how much you will be missed. Love to all the family xxx.”

Collision investigators believe the pair left Barnard Castle and travelled east towards Whorlton in the slate grey/black Audi before the accident at about 3.15am. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

Sergeant Andy Sutherland, from the roads policing unit, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision itself or who saw the vehicle in the time leading up to the collision.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the men earlier that day.

“Tragically two people have lost their lives and I would ask that anyone with any information they feel may help us to piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident get in touch.”

Witnesses should call Durham Police on 101 and ask for the collision investigation unit.
