YARM School students are celebrating after winning places at top universities - with 22.5 per cent of all entries receiving the A* grade.

Eight of the 109 Upper Sixth students will be attending Oxford or Cambridge universities. Students from the independent school have also been accepted to study a wide range of subjects at other leading universities, including the London School of Economics, Durham and Edinburgh.

Students Rachel Brennan, Robin Croft, Thomas Dorrington, Christopher Masterman and Matthew Wales will all be attending Cambridge, while Hannah McCullagh, Dominic Abbott and Sagar Vaze have been accepted to study at Oxford.

Twins Andrew and Rachel Brennan, from Darlington, are celebrating after being accepted to study at top universities. Andrew Brennan achieved one A* and two A grades - whilst juggling his commitments of school captain - and gained entry into Durham University to study biological sciences. Rachel Brennan will be going to Cambridge to study history after achieving two A* and three A grades.

Molly Bean was accepted onto the highly competitive veterinary medicine course at the University of Edinburgh. Two pupils, Matthew Measor and Jacob Hodgson-Stokes will be studying mathematics and economics, and politics and philosophy respectively at the London School of Economics.
