A LEADING garden expert is passing on his skills by showing keen amateurs how to plan a herbaceous border.

Chris Baker is the head gardener at Kiplin Hall, near Scorton, Richmond, and he’s repeating a successful workshop he held last year.

The workshop will be held in the hall, but participants will have an opportunity to look around the gardens to see how they are being restored at the 17th-century Jacobean stately home.

“This is an ideal time to learn about how to plan and prepare your herbaceous border ready for planting and Chris will be passing on knowledge gained from years of experience,” said a spokesman.

“He has an excellent eye for colour and planting structure and will explain how to create the perfect border for all year colour.”

The workshop takes place on September 11 between 10am and 3pm and is limited to 25 places. Tickets are £15 per person. Coffee is provided but bring a packed lunch.
