SPENNYMOOR teenager Simone Abley claimed a bronze medal at the first World Taekwondo Federation Cadet Championships in Azerbaijan last month.
Abley, 14, from Middlestone Moor, had already claimed a bronze at the European Cadet Championships last year and she has now added a world medal to her growing collection.
Completing for Great Britain, Abley won her first fight against Belarus 29-1 with the tie being stopped in the second round before taking a 22-2 win over Italy in her second fight.
The teenager then breezed to a 26-5 quarter-final win over Uzbekistan to earn a semi-final match-up against Israel.
The contest was in the balance until Simone had to chase the match at 5-3 down with the Spennymoor teen eventually losing 10-3.
Abley is with the Great Britain development team and will continue to train with the squad throughout the summer ahead of the British Championships, where she aims to retain her national title.
