NEWCASTLE Eagles have re-signed Scott Martin after the forward impressed in his first professional season on Tyneside.

Martin averaged 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds a game last term, helping Fab Flournoy’s side win the BBL Championship title and reach the play-off and BBL Cup finals.

After a fine debut season in the BBL, Eagles were unsure whether they could complete a deal to bring Martin back for a second season, and managing director Paul Blake revealed his delight at the club’s latest coup.

“After such a great year we hoped we would be able to bring Scott back even though we thought he'd go further afield,” Blake said. “But, we worked hard to reach an agreement and I think it says a lot about his character and how much he enjoyed it with us last season that we were able to clinch this deal.”

Flournoy has already signed Rahmon Fletcher, Ricky Taylor and Andy Thomson, while Martin joins Drew Lasker in returning with the pair expected to be joined by stalwarts Darius Defore and Charles Smith.
