AN AUTHOR is hoping his new book will raise enough money to install a stained glass window to mark the 100th anniversary of a local school chapel.
Malcolm McCallum’s work, Barnard Castle School Chapel, chronicles the history of the chapel, from its planning and design to the laying of its foundation stone and its regular use today.
Mr McCallum, a governor for Barnard Castle School, said: “Researching the impact former pupils have had on the school leaves me feeling very proud and the chapel itself was down to their generosity and dynamism.
“Even today their support is key and I must thank them for helping to finance the publishing of this book. I hope it will be enjoyed and that it achieves its purpose to inform and raise sufficient money for the Prep School centenary window.”
Headmaster Alan Stevens provided the foreword to the book. He said: “To the casual observer the chapel is an impressive building. To those with a closer affinity to the school it has a special place in their hearts.
“Chapel is the first place that new children nervously enter when they join the school and, years later, it is the last place they leave as young men and women.”
