YOUNGSTERS have been making their mark in a positive way – encouraging others not to be litterbugs.

Children from Thornton le Dale primary school near Pickering have been busy with a science project investigating sustainability and the environment.

And pupils from Years Four and Five designed anti-littering posters to remind the public to “do the right thing” when it comes to their litter.

Ryedale District Council was so impressed with their efforts that it decided to display their artwork on the side of two new large refuse collection vehicles.

And over the coming years the message will be seen by countless thousands as the vehicles play the local roads five days a week.

Teacher Dave Cash said “The children were keen to do something to remind people about the problems litter can cause in the environment and it’s great to see their work being used in this way.

“The students have all been very enthusiastic about the project and have had great fun delivering an important message.”
