AN inspirational fundraiser is holding a charity zumbathon to help smash her £50,000 target.

Gillian Clason is hosting the event at the Mercure Kings Hotel, in Priestgate, Darlington, on Sunday, August 31 from 1pm to 4pm.

The 34-year-old, from Darlington, began fundraising for Children with Cancer UK in 2009 in memory of her friend’s son, Henry Valks, who was three when he died of leukaemia.

Since then she has completed scores of fitness challenges, including the London Marathon, Paris Marathon, Great North Run and cycled from London to Paris, raising more than £47,000.

Miss Clason also took part in the 100-mile Prudential RideLondon-Surrey bike race, which took place on Sunday (August 10).

She hopes to break her £50,000 target later this year and has vowed to continue her fundraising until a cure for the disease is found.

She said: "Some people have decided to get sponsorship for the zumbathon and have raised quite a lot. But there is no obligation to get sponsorship if you don't want to."

The zumbathon costs £8 for adults and £5 for under 16s. Entry is free for those collecting sponsorship for the event.
