DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a woman who went missing 14 years ago tonight said they had found a body close to a North Yorkshire tourist hotspot.

The family of Gemma Simpson, from Leeds, was informed of the find near Brimham Rocks, near Ripon.

Detective Chief Inspector Adrian Taylor, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers investigating the murder of Gemma Simpson have recently been conducting enquiries in the vicinity of Brimham rocks in North Yorkshire.

"As a result of extensive work in this area officers from West Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Police have now located human remains.

"It will take some time before the identification of the body can be confirmed but Gemma's family have been kept fully informed of developments."
