EAGLE-EYED residents in the east of the region may have caught a glimpse of the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster on its way to Lincolnshire today (Friday, August 8).
The iconic bomber flew along the coastline at lunchtime en route to RAF Coningsby to join the Red Arrows for a flypast.
That event was cancelled due to poor weather, but the Lancaster’s silhouette could be seen as far inland as Durham Tees Valley Airport as it flew along the coast.
The bomber turned inland over the North Yorkshire Moors, using the Bilsdale mast as a turning point, and touched down at RAF Coningsby at about 2.10pm.
The Lancaster will now complete a busy schedule of air show visits and flypasts before it returns to the North East on August 28.
Those lucky enough to have secured visitor passes – which sold out in three days – will get to see the plane up close amid a day of attractions at Durham Tees Valley Airport.
