A HUSBAND has joined his equally stylish wife in the finals of a national vintage fashion contest.
Frankie Calland, from Howden-le-Wear, near Crook, County Durham, discovered he was a finalist in the Mr Vintage UK competition last week.
The 49-year-old was selected from hundreds of other entrants from across the UK and follows in the footsteps of his wife, Melanie, 47, who was revealed as a Miss Vintage UK finalist last month.
Mr Calland, who dresses in clothes from the 1940s and 1950s, said: “I am quite surprised. We thought it might be a fun thing to do so Melanie entered us both. I have been collecting clothes and dressing this way for more than 30 years.
“I was the youngest child so I grew up in hand-me-downs. It wasn’t called vintage then; it was just second hand.”
The finals of Mr and Miss Vintage UK will be held at the Twinwood Festival in Bedfordshire later this month.
Mr Calland plans to wear either a grey New Yorker suit from 1947 or a brown gabardine suit from 1952.
The festival, which runs from August 23 to 25, is a celebration of vintage fashion, music and dance.
