DARLINGTON shoppers will have the chance to re-enact a scene from a popular 1980s movie when a giant floor piano is installed at the Cornmill Shopping Centre this weekend.

The piano, similar to the one played by Tom Hanks’s character in the 1988 film Big, will be available for children and big kids alike to play on this Saturday.

Shoppers can create tunes by stepping on the oversized keys and a compere will show people how to play an interactive game with a large screen indicating where people should step to perform a repertoire of songs.

The event marks the start of a summer programme of attractions at the centre.

On August 14 it will host a Seaside Fun Day with Punch and Judy shows, face-painting, a caricaturist and candy floss, while on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, an interactive robot known as The Vulcan will be entertaining shoppers.

The Giant Floor Piano will be located in the Cornmill’s upper mall outside Café M, between 10am and 5pm on Saturday.
