POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly taken from the taxi he was travelling in.

The incident is believed to have happened at about 11.15pm on Wednesday, July 23 near Mayflower Court, on Yarm Road, Darlington.

Four men have been charged with kidnap and false imprisonment in connection with the incident.

Christopher Michael Burton, 33, of Lyonette Road, Darlington, Jonathan Phillip Lockey, 25, of Hurworth Road, Hurworth Place, Darlington, and Damian Ainsley Mottram, 29, of Henderson Street, Darlington, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Friday (August 1).

None of the men entered a plea and magistrates committed the case toTeesside Crown Court on Wednesday, August 13.

All three men received conditional bail.

On Wednesday, July 30, Anthony Cooper, 29, of Bamburgh Place, Darlington, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court charged with the same offences.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, August 13.
