A POPULAR Sunday market has celebrated its second birthday as it continues to attract new traders each month.

The Darlington Sunday People’s Market is held on the first Sunday of each month and aims to provide different types of stalls to those found at the weekly markets held in the town.

Market organiser Samantha Blackham said the market was proving popular with traders, with new stalls being added to the roster each month.

She added: “A lot of my traders have started signing up to the Saturday market too because they like Darlington so much, which can only be a good thing. They are enjoying the experience.”

The People’s Market is organised by volunteers with support from markets staff at Darlington Borough Council.

Council leader Bill Dixon praised the efforts of the market organisers and said: “The concept has proved to be a success and long may it continue.

“We’d like to see more local famers get involved and bring their produce to the market.”
