AN AWARD winning hotel owned by former Darlington and Sunderland footballer Marco Gabbiadini and his wife Deborah has been placed up for sale with a price tag of £1.2m.

Bishops, in York, has owned by the couple since 2003. The 11-bedroomed hotel won the York Tourism Guest Accommodation of the year award in 2012 and 2013 and is being marketed by agents Colliers International.

The asking price is for the freehold property and the business itself.

Peter Bean, hotels director at Colliers, said: “This is a high quality highly profitable business with very good accommodation for owners.

“The property also includes a delightful private garden, all of which is a tremendous bonus for buyers looking for a combination of home and business in a highly desirable city.”

Gabbiadini netted 226 league goals during a near 20-year playing career which took in Sunderland, Darlington and Hartlepool among other clubs.

Since his retirement he has also been a broadcaster on BBC Radio Newcastle.
