A MUSEUM is holding a candlelit vigil and lantern procession to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War.
As part of the nationwide Lights Out initiative, The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, will turn off its lights between 10pm and 11pm, on Monday, to mark the centenary anniversary of the conflict’s outbreak.
To take part in the vigil and procession, participants should meet at the museum's gates, at 9.45pm.
Rupert Philbrick, the museum’s First World War project co-ordinator, said: “As we begin collectively the process of commemorating the momentous events of a century ago we’re asking people to participate with us in this tribute.”
Volunteers are also being sought to undertake the roles of stewards, fire marshals and lantern holders at the event.
For information, or to volunteer, call Mr Philbrick on 07926-076187 or email rupert.philbrick@thebowesmuseum.org.uk
