CANNABIS users from all over the country will gather en-masse in the region on Saturday.

The first major cannabis-based event to be held in the North-East will take place in Redcar on Saturday, August 2.

As part of their campaign to legalise the drug for medicinal use, ‘cannabis clubs’ from across the area have banded together to organise the rally, which will feature a number of speakers and the opportunity to meet campaigners.

It has been partly organised by the Teesside Pro-Cannabis Movement (TPCM) which recently pledged to plant cannabis at every well-known landmark in the North-East – a symbolic protest and a free supply for medicinal users, according to organisers.

The movement was established by a father-of-three, a disabled man in his 40s and a professional woman of 50 in a bid to decriminalise the drug.

A joint statement from the TPCM and the Tyne and Wear Cannabis Social Club invites the public to hear their side of the drugs debate on Saturday.

It says: “Redcar is a small town with a tight knit community of salt of the earth North-Easterners and the last thing any of us organising this event want is any disruption to the lives of the community at large.

“We would like to invite anyone in the area who wants to know more about this debate to come along and meet us, listen to our speakers, talk to the people within the movement and see what it is we’re fighting so hard for.

“Stand with us to end unjust legalisation and let us open your mind to the possibilities of a brighter future through the removal of cannabis from the controlled substances act.”

The organisers also urged attendees to work with the police and cooperate wherever possible.

Addressing the police, they list the alleged benefits of cannabis and say: “In a time of biting austerity that’s affecting people far and wide the last thing we want is a huge police presence that is only going to take money from the public coffers of the Redcar community.

“We want this to go off peacefully and without hitches as much as you do.”

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said they would be monitoring the event and dealing robustly with anyone engaging in antisocial or criminal behaviour.

Alcohol is prohibited at the event.

I as part of Friends of Redcar have spent the past year raising the profile of Redcar. Am disgusted that this has been allowed to happen. One step forward and 2 back

Perhaps the police will consider allowing a pro drink driving march or even a pro prostitution movement to take place.

Unbelievable, Redcar sounds like a place for any sane law on idling person to avoid this Saturday!!

Hopefully the Police will let these potheads have their fun, monitor the activity then start raiding homes on Monday.

ok guys, i'm one of the organisers of this event. last night i posted a status laying out a case for legalisation. if you honestly think this is bad thing, then please read this.

You know, when I look at the major problems of today’s world, I can see every one of them being solved through the proliferation of hemp and cannabis.
We supporters of this ethos in the UK can and should be doing a lot more to get the science behind this to be common knowledge to all. We have to start being as visible as possible at every protest that is currently besieging Westminster and Downing Street.
Their causes are just as much our causes!
We have a failing and about to be privatised NHS with crumbling dilapidated infrastructure that tend to be breeding grounds for infections like MRSA. Yet we can combat this by using hemp materials for bedding and MRSA resistant disinfectants.

The science behind using hemp as a building material for healthier, carbon neutral homes is astounding! Think what we could do if we were building our entire infrastructure, all of our homes from hempcrete! Think of the jobs it would create in the building trade!

The efficacy of cannabis as a medicine is now well documented for numerous conditions. I don’t need to go near that because anyone reading this page already knows it.
By removing cannabis from the controlled substances act, allowing people to home grow and produce oils for preventative measures, it will free up millions from the NHS allowing them breathing space to restructure and rebuild as the NHS they were always meant to be.
We need our NHS as a free public service! Health care is a human right no matter how you cut it! To extort money from desperate people for it is beyond reprehensible! I for one do not wish to see our health service go the way of the American one.
Fracking! If that one word doesn’t fill you with dread, then you need to crawl out from whatever rock you’ve been living under! Fracking is both dangerous and disingenuous!
The environmental damage is catastrophic! From poisoned water aquifers to methane releases in to the atmosphere! The financial numbers simply don’t add up! Its short term thinking for short term gain! I should also point out that almost every abandoned well in America has been left to the tax payer to clean up after each company went bankrupt.
The economics of it all wrong!
We, the tax payers are paying subsidies to these companies to come and frack and once they’re done we’ll also have to pay for the clean up! If you haven’t done any research on this subject, it’s time you did. Especially seeing as just a few days ago this report came out to zero media attention.

Our government claim that they are doing this so we don’t have to rely on unreliable sources for our energy needs. Having just typed those words the irony of it has just hit home.
If you don’t know about hemp biofuels by now, here’s a report for you to read up on.
About 6% of contiguous United States land area put into cultivation for biomass could supply all current demands for oil and gas.

We’re a tad smaller than America so I doubt we would need that much land. Even if we did, we have plenty of it about.
This would end our reliance on Russian and Middle Eastern oil putting an end to the current wars we face on multiple fronts.
Again, do your research! Ukraine has vast untapped wells of shale gas that the oil companies are chomping at the bit to get at.

We can end these costly wars by growing hemp, producing our own biofuels and ending our reliance on unscrupulous leaders who take us in to illegal wars with propaganda and lies!
We could also reverse the damage done by the fossil fuel industry! One hemp plant takes in four times as much co2 as any tree. If we were farming it, home growing it in the open, we could clear the air of massive amounts of toxins in no time.

I have no doubt that if you were to ask anyone if they could fill their car up for less than a pound a litre while also mitigating their carbon footprint but it would mean the removal of cannabis from the controlled substances act, they would support it!
Unemployment is at an all time high with youth employment being the most prevalent. With austerity and biting cuts to benefits across the country, it’s easy to see why some people turn to home growing to make money. Prohibition and austerity is fostering a culture of hardened criminals on our streets!
Yet the ending of prohibition in Colorado is showing us the potential of what is possible! With 75,000 extra jobs in the recreational market and a 10% drop in the overall crime rate the figures speak for themselves!

In my opinion, the next greatest threat to our survival as a species is the amount of bee deaths we’re currently having due to the use of industrial pesticides. Without the bees, all life is gone in five years! This one is kind of important seeing as there were reports just the other day about how we are now in the midst of the sixth great extinction with humanity’s folly to blame.
Yet studies done in Switzerland have shown that bee colonies fed on hemp syrup had significantly reduced deaths from colony collapse disorder from 50% to 10%. This next study shows that hemp is actually a natural part of the honey bee’s food chain.

Maybe I’m grasping at straws here, but it seems to make sense to me that if you remove a natural part of any animal’s food chain, you’re going to see drop offs in their numbers over time.
We cling to the medical debate to get this plant legalised like we’re asking for sympathy.
Others cling to the recreational debate as it’s a far safer alternative intoxicant than either alcohol or tobacco.
Yet almost everyone overlooks that our very survival could very well depend on this plant!
Removal from the controlled substances act is not just about reform! It is rapidly becoming a necessity!
We all need to shake off the stigma created by successive governments about this plant and start sharing information like this everywhere! We all need to stand up and be counted!
We need to have our flags flying with every protest across the country and show solidarity with those fighting fracking, the privatisation of the NHS, illegal wars over natural resources we can already supply sustainably and many other reasons that I’ve highlighted on our page in recent times.
We’ve held up the poppy as a symbol of peace for 100 years. It’s time for the hemp leaf to take it’s place for world peace, world health and world prosperity!
Free the weed, free the people!

The war against cannabis was lost a long time ago.

We're now left with a policy which is like a osterich sticking it's head in the sand and not actually dealing with the issue. Like it or not, people smoke cannabis, be it for medical use or recreational use. Last report I read stated around 3 million people using cannabis in 2012. All these people forced to use shady drug dealers and funding organised crime.

We have more regulations over spud guns in the UK then there is over cannabis. If you don't find that insane, I hope our paths never cross.

About 6% of contiguous United States land area put into cultivation for biomass could supply all current demands for oil and gas.

http://www.hemp4fuel
