SELL out crowds gave students the ovation they deserved after bringing the year to a tumultuous conclusion with a classic performance.
Carmel College, in Darlington, staged the multi-coloured Joseph in a four night run to remember.
Up to 100 students, from years 7 to 13, spent months putting the 90-minute musical together complete with elaborate sets and props of Biblical proportions.
George Ford excelled in the starring role of Joseph, head boy Tom Jackson put in a peerless performance as Pharaoh with an Elvis lilt, Katie Hall captured the hearts of the audience with her solo performances, while the narrators, led by Ciaran Jasper, gave a splendid display.
Produced by Pam Walls, special effects were directed by former student and professional lighting engineer Peter Shorten, who returned to his old school to help stage the spectacular.
Carmel College principal Maura Regan said: “We pride ourselves on putting on a great show but Joseph really was exceptional.
“Fabulous performances were staged night after night reflecting the absolute commitment, dedication and talent of our students and staff.
“The college has enjoyed a tremendously successful year in all quarters and the show encapsulated perfectly the spirit and colourful dynamism that we have worked tirelessly to create.”
