THERE were wagging tails and biscuits aplenty as dog lovers and their four-legged friends descended on a North-East park for a charity fun day.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners took part in the Darlington Dogs Trust annual fun day at South Park, in Darlington, today (Sunday, July 20).

The event celebrated the 20th anniversary of the charity’s rehoming centre in Sadberge and featured fun competitions for dogs, including waggiest tail, best biscuit catcher, and best trick.

Prizes were given for the prettiest bitch and the most handsome dog, as well as best junior and best veteran.

The event also included stalls, a dog agility course, a bouncy castle, food, free micro-chipping for pets, and a parade of dogs from the centre that are looking for a new home.

Support relations officer, Rebecca McKeown, said the day was the best the charity has ever held.

“It has been absolutely fantastic, we are overwhelmed with the support,” she said. “There seems to be more people that have come down with their dogs than ever before.

“It is really nice that we have got so many people that want to come down and support us.

“We have also got people who have adopted from us come down for the day.”

She thanked the 30 volunteers who helped out at the event.
