WEIRD and wonderful engines of all kinds were celebrated at a North Yorkshire steam rally this weekend.

The Masham Steam Engine and Fair Organ Rally overcame the rain to mark its 49th annual steam rally in style.

Everything from tractors to vintage commercial vans and ancient steam vehicles featured in the event, which even included a parade of Land Rovers.

The event was set up initially to raise funds for Masham Town Hall and - with exception of during the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001 – has run every year since.

This year’s show on Saturday (July 19) and Sunday (July 20) included exhibits new to the fair and a variety of arena entertainment.

Saturday’s line-up included a Ferguson Club display, a horse show, a classic and vintage car trophy presentation, Land Rovers parade, ladies’ engine event and national pony games.

On Sunday, entertainment included a dog agility show, the Inch Perfect Motorcycle Trials Display Team demonstrating motorbike stunts, parades of tractors, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and fire engines.

There was also a cookery theatre led by local chef Gilly Robinson, who recently opened a cookery school at Malton along with stalls, children’s entertainments, crafts and food.

Next year the rally will be pulling out all the stops for its 50th anniversary.
