LEGIONS of nuns will jog through a North-East park in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

Members of the public are invited to take part in the Nun Run, a 5k race taking place from 11am on Sunday, October 5, at South Park in Darlington.

Participants will be encouraged to take part while dressed in a nun's habit, but this is not essential.

The event is being held to raise money for GNAAS, with all proceeds going to the Darlington-based charity.

There will be music from Star Radio and an appearance from the GNAAS mascot Miles the Bear.

The event was the idea of members of Darlington Operatic Society. The group is preparing for a production of Sister Act, a musical featuring the adventures of soul singer living undercover in a convent.

Julian Cound, chairman of Darlington Operatic Society, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing a park full of people dressed as nuns, all in aid of a fantastic cause. Dressing as a nun isn’t mandatory, the most important thing is to raise as much money as possible.”

Entry to the race is £10. To sign up, visit greatnorthairambulance.co.uk/shop

The event is supported by Northumbria Water.

Sister Act runs at Darlington Civic Theatre from October 22 to November 1. Performances take place nightly at 7.15pm, with a 2pm matinee on October 25th.

Tickets are £14 to £19 and are available at darlingtonos.org.uk
