BOXER Stuart Hall threw his weight behind a charity golf day by swapping his boxing gloves for fluorescent trousers.

The event at Saltburn Golf Club raised a total of £3,800 to be shared equally between Macmillan Cancer Care and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough.

“The bad weather hindered the day but it definitely didn’t spoil it,” said organiser Peter Plummer.

"This event has been cancelled over the past three years due to lack of support. My aim was to raise £1,000 for each charity so I am delighted we have managed to surpass that.”

Mr Plummer said he did not know how well the former IBF Bantamweight Champion from Darlington had fared on the course, but said Mr Hall was still there at the end of the day wearing eye-catching fluorescent trousers and a matching cap.

The main sponsor for the event, which attracted 212 golfers, was air-conditioning firm Air Con and Drive Vauxhall dealership in Redcar sponsored the hole-in-one competition on the 18th, donating a brand new Vauxhall Mokka.
