SHOPPERS at a Darlington supermarket can choose between three charities to receive a funding windfall.

The Asda store, in Whinbush Way, is inviting shoppers the chance to support either Harewood Hill Lodge, Darlington Amateur Boxing Club or the Veterans at Ease charity.

Voting is carried out in store, taking place over a two month period from July to the end of August by putting tokens, handed out at the tills into one of the three boxes next to the stores community board.

These charities have been shortlisted from nominations by customers and colleagues in store who can fill out nomination cards.

Store manager Steve White said: "We wanted to give people the opportunity to play a part in selecting the organisation or charity that will benefit from our support.

"We're really keen to help the community in any way we can. The three organisations were initially nominated by customers too, so we know we are supporting causes important to the community."

The £300 donation every two months has been funded by the Asda Foundation, which was set up in 1988 to support many different good causes and is funded by profits from the mid-week lottery.
