Keep your windows and doors locked, urge police after spate of burglaries

Darlington and Stockton Times: (8351146) (8351146)

POLICE have urged people to keep their doors and windows locked following a spate of burglaries in Darlington.

In the fortnight running up to Sunday, July 13, there were 16 house burglaries in the town.

On five occasions, the thieves got into the properties through an insecure window and, on a further four occasions, entry was gained through an insecure door.

A post on Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team’s Facebook page said: “That’s nine out of 16 which could have been prevented very easily and that’s why we are always trying to reinforce the message about the importance of taking an extra moment to double-check you have locked up – even during the day and when you’re in.

“Burglaries can be really distressing for victims, so please help us to keep burglars at bay by keeping your home secure.”

For advice and information on home security, contact Darlington’s Safer Neighbourhood Unit on 01325 346823.

Maybe if there was a real deterrent scum who committed these crimes would think twice. I'd lock burglars up for 15 years - minimum.

I believe these little sh**s should be sentenced to the services. There must be a nice Sargeant Major who would like to have a friendly chat with them for a number of years. There has got to be a deterrent to deter these people There is not ! Give people there lives back and their peace of mind, the courts need to start acting for the good of the community and the victims not the felon!

trigger happy triglet, but the question will now arise as to your suitability to hold not only a shotgun certificate but also a firearms licence.

If the window or door was shut, it was indeed secure.
And the scum that don't know the difference need locking up for a 10 stretch without any chance of parole. It's about time that the onus was shifted from the law abiding - to the criminally minded. Severe mandatory sentences would work wonders.

I'm sick of hearing the Police telling us all that we should be living behind locked doors and windows - because of their inability to act and catch these criminals. The world has gone raving mad!

Eh? Surely I should be able to leave my property unlocked and my car keys in the ignition. It isn"t my fault if criminals steal my things.

Typical, lazy attitude of the Police to blame the victim. I've caught people stealing, detained them and the Police don't even bother to turn up.

Think you will find all insurance companies will not pay out for incidents as you describe as its its your own fault for recklass stupidity, they do contact police to ascertain circumstances;

Reality is - too many thieves and miscreants and too few police .Sadly morale in police service must be so low in my experience they don't want to do the job .Police deal with scum so much they forget how to interact with decent people unless it's a local councillor who will behave well at a pact meeting and give police good publicity- they need it as in my experience they are woefully inadequate .Sad state of affairs ,best plan look after your own because cops don't care.

Invest in a big Hungry 'Anti-illegal, Druggie Hungry Hound' and a Good pair of night vision Binoculars, after the disgusting treatment of the innocent victim Mr Martin, years ago,.... so called ' learned judges High Court Judges' have ruled you can now use any **reasonable force** to protect your Life and Property. Now that's a Common-sense Big deal, of course most decent law-abiding citizens went to the open university of Common-sense and would deal with any of their own life-property attacks accordingly, certainly in their own sensible way.
