POLICE have urged people to keep their doors and windows locked following a spate of burglaries in Darlington.
In the fortnight running up to Sunday, July 13, there were 16 house burglaries in the town.
On five occasions, the thieves got into the properties through an insecure window and, on a further four occasions, entry was gained through an insecure door.
A post on Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team’s Facebook page said: “That’s nine out of 16 which could have been prevented very easily and that’s why we are always trying to reinforce the message about the importance of taking an extra moment to double-check you have locked up – even during the day and when you’re in.
“Burglaries can be really distressing for victims, so please help us to keep burglars at bay by keeping your home secure.”
