A CLASSIC murder mystery will serve up plenty of red herrings and tasty twists for audiences at a North-East theatre this week.

The stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s detective novel, A Murder is Announced, opened today (Tuesday, July 15) at Darlington Civic Theatre and will run until Saturday (July 19).

Featuring Eastenders star Louise Jameson as Miss Marple, and Emmerdale actress Sophie Powles as Philippa Haymes, the story begins with a strange announcement in a village’s local paper stating the time and a place where a murder will take place.

As a result, several intrigued villagers attend and witness the gruesome murder of an unexpected and unknown visitor.

What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of twists and turns, with Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution.

Tickets range from £13 to £21 with a free post show talk taking place tomorrow night (Wednesday, July 16).
