A TOWN was transported back to the 1940s when a replica Spitfire took up residence on the green.

The full-size model was just one of many attractions on offer at Sedgefield Weekend over the weekend.

Hundreds of people of all ages flocked to the village to be treated to an array of nostalgic activities, including a 1940s singer, military re-enactments, a George Formby impersonator, vintage craft and fashion stalls and a retro catwalk show.

There was also an afternoon tea dance and an evening swing dance, organised by Sedgefield Village Veterans, and a First World War exhibition, organised by Sedgefield Local History Society.

Other highlights included traditional fairground rides, a Sedgefield in Bloom open garden event, a community picnic and the Sedgefield Games sports day.

Lucy Hakes, who attended the event with her four-year-old daughter, Matilda, said: “It is very atmospheric here, with the music playing.

“I wanted to bring Matilda so she could see all the old vehicles and clothes and she is fascinated by it all.

“It is such a fantastic event for the community and obviously the lovely weather makes it even more enjoyable.”
