A 24 hour duathlon proved to be a huge success when charity fundraisers took to the track.

Up to 100 people took part in the MS Society Teesside branch event with one woman and one man completing the full 24 hours themselves.

Runners and cyclists turned out at the Middlesbrough Cycle Curcuit on Marton Road to raise cash and awareness for the charity by completing circuits of the 1km track.

Starting at 1pm on Saturday the fundraisers took part in hour long runs or cycles.

"It has been a fantastic event," said event organiser Keith Craven. "For the first 12 hours we had fabulous sunshine and for the last 12 we had heavy rain but all in all it went really well and everyone seemed to enjoy taking part.

"The event was as much about raising awareness as it was about raising money and we have seen two people, a man and a woman, complete the 24 hour session themselves and several teams have taken part for the entire session as well."

Well done to John Carr for retaining the title for the second year. It's been a difficult 11 months for John battering sciatic/back pain. Like a true hero he did it for those s much worse off than him. We hope you raised the £500.00 you were hoping for. Well done to everyone who entered. People like you realy make a difference. Thank you.
