A WALK in the park saw toddlers don their wellies to raise money for charity today (Sunday, July 13).

More than 100 people braved the rain to take part in the seventh annual Macmillan Toddle, which took place in Darlington’s South Park.

The event saw toddlers and their families set off around the park for a one-mile sponsored walk.

Colourful clown Tommy Bungle started the event, with participants passing through an arch formed by the Locos in Motion Morris dancing troupe at the start-line.

The troupe helped to entertain the toddlers as they splashed their way around the circuit and enjoyed other activities including raffles and appearances from Star Wars characters.

The walk, organised by the Darlington Fundraising Group (DFG), has raised more than £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care since its inception.

Michelle Thompson, from the DFG, said: “It went really well, especially considering the weather.

“Everyone came prepared with wellies instead of sun-cream and we are so proud of everyone who took part.

“Every year we get these little ones making such a difference for local people living with cancer and it was so lovely to see them all setting off and walking through the Morris dancers’ arch of honour.

“We do all sorts to raise money for Macmillan but this is our biggest event and it goes from strength to strength every year.”
