A GIANT four-storey £1m “high ropes course” soon have people enjoying the high life.

The 18m-high Sky Trail would be the highest in the UK should the attraction be approved to be built at the Tees White Water Course at the Tees Barrage.

It is estimated the Sky Trail would significantly increasing visitor numbers to Stockton borough.

Stockton Council’s cabinet will consider the “invest-to-save” proposal on Thursday, July 17.

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “We already have a world-class facility in the white water course and the Sky Trail would complement this. It would mean that Stockton could offer both wet and dry activities on one site, bringing more people into the Borough.

“Stockton is quickly becoming a fun and vibrant visitor destination. The introduction of Sky Trail would be another exciting addition and would certainly help put our Borough further on the map.

“The impact that the Sky Trail could have on the local economy should not be underestimated. High ropes facilities in other parts of the country are very successful and have brought a significant increase in footfall – I’m confident that Stockton would reap the same benefits. By offering something new and different Stockton will become a place people from far and wide want to visit. This increase in footfall would, without a doubt, increase spend at local hotels, shops and eateries.”

If agreed by Cabinet the proposal will be further developed ahead of it being considered for planning approval.
