Nostalgic fun comes to Sedgefield

7:22pm Monday 7th July 2014

MILITARY re-enactments, vintage crafts, a 1940s fashion show and a replica Spitfire are among an array of nostalgic activities at a free event this weekend.

Sedgefield Weekend, starting on Saturday, July 12, will also feature a children’s paper plane flying contest between 9am and 10am, at St Edmund’s Church, followed by the Sedgefield Village Games at Ceddesfeld Hall.

This will feature sports and relay races, welly wanging and other activities from 10am.

The same venue will also host a First World War exhibition by Sedgefield Local History Society and, at noon, a Big Lunch, with the public encouraged to come together for a picnic.

Other highlights at the event, organised by Sedgefield 700+ committee, include a Spitfire and simulator, military re-enactments, marching, vintage craft stalls, a 1940s singer and George Formby impersonator on the green from 10am to 5pm.

Between 10am and 4.30pm, at the Parish Hall, a 1940s fashion show and afternoon tea dance will take place and retro hair-dos will be on offer.

Sedgefield Village Veterans will also host a swing dance, from 7pm to 11pm, at the same venue, with tickets priced at £9.

On Sunday (July 13), similar activities will take place on the green, as well as an open garden event, with maps available from the Sedgefield in Bloom gazebo, priced at £3, alongside a performance by Onyx Brass, from 11am.

At Ceddesfeld Hall, Sedgefield Twinning Association will host an exhibition, featuring German food and drink, from 10am to noon, and afternoon teas will be served from 1pm to 4pm.

Swing dance tickets are available from sedgefieldvillageveterans.co.uk
