THE Tour de France frenzy is over but huge crowds are now descending on the region again – this time for the Great Yorkshire Show.

The biggest countryside event of its kind got underway this morning.

The three-day event will see two Royal visits this year, with the Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal among those who will be attending.

Show director Bill Cowling said: “It’s going to be a wonderful three days and all the signs are that it will exceed our expectations.

“The showground is in super condition, the weather could not have been better for exhibitors setting up and we have record entries.”

He added: “We’ve always had great support from our visitors and we’re looking forward to welcoming them.”

About 6,000 cattle, sheep, pigs and horses will come before the judges and there will also be international show jumping, a huge food exhibition, fashion shows and a garden show.
