TWO friends are midway through a fundraising bike ride for a cancer charity.

Rob Wykes, from Darlington, teamed up with Birmingham-based school friend Joe Obi to take on the Land's End to John O'Groats challenge.

The pair, both 28, set off from Cornwall on Friday (July 4) and hope to reach the Scottish outpost by Saturday, cycling an average of more than 100 miles per day.

They are raising money for Cancer Research, after Mr Wykes' mother, Linda Rudd, had treatment at the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle.

Mr Wykes' wife, Gemma, said the pair were enjoying the tough challenge.

The pair have already surpassed their initial fundraising target of £100.
