A PUB landlady will deliver Sunday dinners to pensioners left isolated by changes to bus routes.

Kate Umpleby – landlady of the Foresters Arms pub in Coatham Mundeville, near Darlington – will deliver lunches to OAPs living in nearby Brafferton.

She came up with the idea after realising many pensioners were left unable to get their own shopping when bus routes changed and left the nearest bus stop a mile from the centre of the village.

She said: “A lot of elderly people are struggling as there’s no way they can walk up to the bus stops.

“They’re having to rely on family and neighbours to get them to the shops or the hospital.

“There’s quite a lot of cooking and shopping involved in making a Sunday lunch and so if any pensioner in Brafferton wants a home cooked Sunday lunch, we’d be happy to take it to them.”

The Sunday lunches are being offered to Brafferton residents at a subsidised price of £3.50 with free delivery from this Sunday, July 6.

To order, call 01325-320565 before 10.30am on a Sunday. Deliveries will start at noon.
