A TEEANGER and a man suffered serious injuries after a collision with a van on a road beside the A19.
A white Vauxhall van, driven by a man in his 40s, collided with the rear of a horse and cart at 8.50pm on Monday (June 23) on the A168 near Thirsk and Northallerton Golf Club, South Kilvington.
A 19-year-old local woman who was riding in the trap from the South Kilvington roundabout towards the B1448, near Thirsk, sustained serious injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
A 43-year-old local man, who was walking at the side of the pony and trap, sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, broken arm and broken jaw, and was also taken to the hospital.
Both casualties are being treated in hospital.
A vet was called to the scene to treat the horse, which sustained a cut to its rear.
The driver of the van was not injured in the collision.
Police are appealing to anyone who saw the van or the horse and trap before or during the collision to call 101.
