A SINGER-SONGWRITER has been invited to play Glastonbury Festival for the second year.

Pip Mountjoy, of Little Fencote, near Bedale, will also perform a BBC York broadcast session the day before the launch of her new EP Ursus Arctos – the scientific name of the brown bear - on July 21 at Oporto in Leeds.

The 20-year-old said: “The launch event is free entry, and it'll be a full band show with support from Boss Caine and Sam Griffiths also performing, so I’m really excited.

“The night before I will be performing all the songs on the EP in a session at BBC York and will have a full band which is really exciting.”

Despite currently suffering with a bout of laryngitis, Ms Mountjoy is looking forward to her busy summer schedule, when she will be performing at festivals including Willowman Festival, near Thirsk; King of the Mountains in Muker for the Tour de France; Cambridge Folk Festival and Tramlines Festival in Sheffield.

And she said she was thrilled to be returning to Glastonbury Festival, from Thursday, June 26, on the Bimble Inn and Small World stages.

“I’m so excited to be going back – it was my dream come true to play there last year so to go back is brilliant.”
